Meet MERCEDES CHERRY: Yoga Teacher at This Is Yoga

What was your inspiration for becoming a yoga teacher?

My greatest inspiration in teaching and practicing yoga has been my Mum's life-long dedication to Yoga and exercise. I've had the pleasure of witnessing firsthand how powerful moving your body and being dedicated to your practice is, as shown by her unwavering emotional resilience, happy disposition, and general gratitude for life. I feel incredibly lucky to have such a kind and loving parent to inspire me in the way that she navigates life.

Your favourite yoga pose if you have one?

It's hard to say! But I have always been a big fan of Half Moon (Ardha Chandrasana), it feels amazing every time and there are so many places you can come in and go from here.

What do you enjoy most about teaching?

The mat has been my playground, my sanctuary, and my guide through every hurdle and joyous moment of life. I've had the privilege of learning from so many fantastic teachers, each of whom has inspired me in different ways. Being able to share this space and experience with others, to guide them as they explore and find their own peace and strength, is an absolute privilege. It brings me joy to witness others discovering the power of movement and mindfulness, just as I have.
